NEW SERIAL JO KAHUNGA SACH KAHUNGASolemn PledgePosted online: Friday, September15, 2006 at 0000 hours ISTWhen reality shows are in vogue, Green Communications Pvt. Has come out with a thriller-cum- courtroom drama based on real-life incidents in its new serial Jo Kahunga Sach Kahunga. The weekly show is aired on Doordarshan from 10-11 p.m. Every Tuesday.
Screen meets up with director Manoj Nautiyal and the main protagonist Geetika Tyagi who plays a defence lawyerManoj NautiyalYou directed Creative Eye's Jodee Kamaal Ki earlier. What made you switch on to a different genre.?Well, in my college days I had a chance to go to court for someone else. The proceedings enchanted me, thereby awakening a sense of anxiety about the whole system in me. After doing a lot of research into the subject, I have come out with some startling facts of which our film/TV directors are ignorant.Could you relate them to us?Gowns are not allowed in the lower courts, except the High Court and the Supreme Court. All scenes depicted in our films or TV serials are essentially related to the lower courts. Hence an advocate shown wearing a gown in film scenes is inaccurate.

Secondly,in a lower court a judge is either addressed as 'Your Honour' or 'Sir'. Only a judge of a High Court or the Supreme Court addressed as 'My Lord'. Recently there has been a new ruling whereby one can optionally address a judge of either a High Court or Supreme Court as either 'My Lord' or 'Sir.'
Anything else?Yes, our people are ignorant of the fact that the High Court, on an application, delves into judgements passed by a lower court and gives its opinion on whether the order was right or wrong by giving its own ruling. Similarly the Supreme Court discusses the ruling passed by a High Court and gives its own ruling. When we present courtroom scenes in our films or serials we should portray them properly or we could well become a laughing stock before the legal fraternity. How would you describe Jo Kahunga Sach Kahunga?Jo Kahunga Sach Kahunga is a fictional serial woven around lively courtroom drama scenes.
The title itself has been derived from the solemn oath that witnesses are required to take while testifying in the court. The aim of the serial is to reinforce that despite the numerous evil designs woven through lies, truth always prevails at the end.Could you name some real-life incidents that you have incorporated in the serial?(Smiles) Each episode of the serial touches upon a different case. Hence, each story is completed in an hour-long episode. Some of the incidents that we have covered are: a model's murder during a fashion show, a starlet accusing a film director of the casting couch, a young wife accused of killing her rich, old husband, and a bahu (daughter-in-law) burning her saas (mother-in-law), a film controversy that claims a life, a MMS controversy, a cricket captain sacked and many more.Could you tell us about the cast and credits? We have a mix of new and experienced artistes who play stellar roles in the serial. Besides Geetika Tyagi, they are Anang Desai who plays KK Gairola, Ashok Lokhande who plays Fatte Singh Phagwara and Gangaa Mamgai who plays journalist Shweta. Then there are Rohinika, Sanjay Badoni and Akash Aditya who play Isha (an assistant lawyer), Sirjee (an assistant detective) and Siddharth Thakur ( as a police inspector).
The serial that has been produced by Jagmohan Bhanver - an internationally- acclaimed motivational speaker who has two best-selling books on Motivational Behaviour Finance to his credit, in association with Applause Entertainment. It has been written by Bharat Kukreti who has also been writing for various publications. (Grins) He has also been associated with Jodee Kamaal Ki.Why did not you choose any other satellite channel except Doordarshan?Initially, we thought of approaching some other channel but they wouldn't touch anything except a rona-dhona script. Then we decided to tap Doordarshan and believe it or not after giving them our pilot, we were allowed to beam within a month. And here we are with one episode already aired. How many episodes have you been granted and how many have you canned? We have initially been alloted 26 episodes with an understanding of beaming 52 episodes if all goes well.Geetika TyagiHow does it feel now that the first episode has already been aired?I for one am not of those who will have pre-release blues or get very excited. Though this is my first out- of-theatre work, I know of what I am performing and am giving my best to it.Does that mean that you do not have prior experience?I have acted in a play, Chaupat Raja, earlier and have also attended several NSD workshops.
I am basically a journalist from the electronic media and I feel it is my luck which has helped me diversify. Now that I am into acting there's no looking back for me. I give all credit to Manoj for giving me the break. The coming episodes will help me brush up my skills. Will you give us a brief outline of Jo Kahunga Sach Kahunga? The serial primarily focusses on the life of a young woman lawyer who has gone to the extent of making personal sacrifices to pursue her studies and profession. Ujjwala Rawat has already earned a formidable reputation on the basis of some very complicated cases that she has fought and won.
She represents the contemporary Indian woman who is a blend of modernity and traditional values. Ujjwala is supported in her endeavour by an array of very likeable and thoughtfully created characters such as private detective Fatte Singh Phagwara and journalist Shweta. In short Jo Kahunga Sach Kahunga provides wholesome entertainment through engaging court scenes, sleek investigation techniques, integral elements of fun and humour and a nail-biting climax.
